Angel Garcia advises Erik Morales to retire ? Boxing News
Mexican legend Erik Morales lost his WBC light welterweight title to American unbeaten fighter Danny Garcia last year. Even though the defeat was devastating to his career, Morales claimed he could do better. Garcia?s performance against Morales was not mind-blowing but his recent knockout victory over Amir Khan has positioned him in the top spot.
Garcia?s father, Angel Garcia believes it is time for Erik Morales to retire, as Angel Garcia sees no scope for him in the sport anymore.
?I say five [rounds] to be nice, Danny says four?I didn?t know he [Morales] was that big [fat]. It was all here [pointing to his midsection] too. That?s bad. Honestly, [he's still fighting] probably cause he needs the money. If it was me, I wouldn?t let him fight. Listen, your day is over, that?s it. If you can?t walk around at 50? at least, and you?re walking around at 180, that?s bad,? he said in an interview with RingTV.
Morales is already 36 and Angel Garcia believes it is time for the Mexican fighter to hang up his gloves. Morales stands with 52 wins, 8 losses and 36 knockouts in his portfolio. He went through an abdominal surgery last year and right after three months faced Danny Garcia. To most analysts and fans, the surgery did not let Morales prepare for the fight well.
However, Angel and Danny Garcia are not willing to accept any excuses. Against Morales was Garcia?s biggest victory to date and he is in no mood to let go off it. Probably, this is the reason why the light welterweight opted to fight Morales once again.
Morales was surely slow in his last fight and he appreciated Garcia for being a strong kid. Now, the Mexican believes it is his time to reclaim his title. On the other hand, Danny is looking forward to a knockout victory over the Mexican, in order to secure the number spot in the division without any fingers being pointed at him.
Garcia knocked out Khan earlier this year and now he believes it is time to knockout Morales to cement his legacy in the division.
